Hunter Sport & Entertainment Precinct Submission Assistance

Dear Newcastle Cricket Family Member

You may be aware that the NSW State Government recently announced ‘A Vision for the Hunter Sports & Entertainment Precinct’ for Broadmeadow through Venues NSW. You can read the ‘Vision’ by clicking here.

For many years, cricket had a major presence throughout the Broadmeadow precinct, however over recent years cricket facilities have continued to be lost in favour of other codes and usages. Cricket NSW would like to see this change.

Currently there is no suitable facility to host elite cricket between Sydney and the Far North Coast of NSW and rarely does an opportunity arise where facilities can be developed to address this. This precinct development is a rare, once in a lifetime opportunity for the city to make a statement and provide a world class venue and associated training and community facilities  for Australia’s favourite sport.

The Newcastle and Hunter region has always been an important region for cricket, and Cricket NSW would like to see Australia’s favourite sport again have a major presence in Australia’s seventh largest city, and NSW’s second largest city. We want more cricket played locally, and we want to bring first class content to the region regularly – but we need your help.

Cricket NSW will be making a submission to Venues NSW about what we would like to see at the precinct, and that includes:

–          An oval stadium fit to host International & National (including BBL, WBBL, Sheffield Shield & WNCL) content.

–          A Centre of Excellence to service the NSW Cricket, Northern NSW and local representative pathway programs.

–          Community facilities, both playing ovals and training facilities.

Venues NSW are asking for public submissions about the what they would like to see included at the Hunter Sports & Entertainment Precinct. This is where you come in!

We need you to make a submission by 30 November 2017 to Venues NSW indicating major and local cricket facilities are needed.

We are asking all cricket players, coaches, volunteers and fans to make your voice heard and make a contribution. This can be done a few ways and is really easy.
